(Every week, along with counseling and mental health information, I will try to equip you with some kind of outdoor activity or skill. I love getting into the wilderness, and I also enjoy sharing new things with people who don’t typically enjoy the outdoors. Some weeks this might be something super simple, like this week, or it might be something for the more intrepid outdoor explorer. However, like counseling in the more traditional sense, I truly believe that being outdoors is therapeutic. Hopefully, these regular posts will inspire and embolden you to get outside and enjoy nature more.)
Along with counseling, another significant passion in my life is the outdoors. I love getting outside and escaping the stress and distractions of daily life. It’s one of the things I talked about in earlier this week that I’ve begun working into my monthly rhythm to help remove stress. One way I try to do that often is by finding a place to camp. And I don’t know about you, but it has not been a successful trip unless I’ve spent some significant time around a campfire. Folks have been making use of fire for a very long time. For some reason, we are naturally drawn to it. Even the most outdoor-averse person will tell you, there’s something about sitting around a fire with friends that makes it a memorable experience. The glow of the fire and the warmth it provides have led to many conversations that impacted my life. Whether it’s getting to hear someone’s life story, making progress on a big decision, or celebrating a milestone with friends and family, I love being outside around a campfire.
With that in mind, I wanted to direct y’all to a video that will help get you started building a campfire. This video is from a guy that I follow on YouTube who runs a channel called Coalcracker Bushcraft. He seems to know his stuff pretty well, but like everything, some of his videos are hit-or-miss. That being said, this is a great resource to begin learning and understanding how to build a campfire. Check it out and let me know what you think. Then get outside this weekend with some friends and enjoy some fire-time!
